“What happens after I pass?” Mama asked.
“That’s what we can put in your will. Whatever you want, Mama. The money can go wherever you want,” I said.
“Well, Mama’s word is her bond and I’m sellin’ the house to you and Maggie and Layla. That’s all there is to it. I don’t want to deal with the money. You bring me the papers and the trust and the will and we’ll talk some more.”
Just then there was a knock at the door and Chloe stepped in. “Ready to go, Mama?” she asked.
“Yes, yes, Mama is ready.” And after gathering up her papers we all got a hug and then Mama went into Layla’s room to kiss her on the cheek.
Coming out of Layla’s room, Mama said, “I want Layla to have that money!”
I said, “Let’s just sit with all this and I’ll draw up a draft of a trust and a will. We can all get together soon and work out the money part.”
Mama waved her hand in the air and said, “Mama just needs to pray ‘bout this!” And with that she was gone.
Maggie and I just stood there kind of shocked and I said, “Wow, I didn’t see that coming!”
