Ignoring her, I realized that Dr. Henderson’s nurse was now on the line. “Hello, is this Mr. Hart?” she asked. “I’m Louise, Dr. Henderson’s nurse.”
“Yes, this is Jim Hart.” I said, remembering Maggie’s admonishment to stay calm. But it wasn’t working and I blurted out, “Look, Louise, my wife is in pain and we need to see Dr. Henderson right away. I understand he’s at the hospital, but this is urgent and we need to see him today!”
“I understand, and I just paged Dr. Henderson and I will do what I can. Can you wait there by the phone until the doctor contacts me?” Louise said in her most professional and kind voice.
Feeling a bit relieved, I said, “Of course!”
“I’ll contact you as soon as I hear back from Dr. Henderson,” she said as she hung up the phone.
I slammed down the phone and said, “Great, that’s just great!”
“Baby, can you come in here?” I heard Maggie say from the bedroom.
As I entered the bedroom I was about to explode, but before I could say a word Maggie patted the side of the bed and said, “Jimmy, come here, baby, and sit down next to me.”
