“Oh sorry, Dr. Henderson, she’s in the bedroom with Mama Vermillion and her helper Myra.”

Following me into the bedroom, Dr. Henderson with his best bedside manner greeted everyone in the room and then said to Maggie, “So, Jim says the baby has turned and your water broke? When did this happen, Maggie?”

“About an hour ago, Dr. Henderson,” Maggie said.

“Well, let’s have a look,” he said, as he removed his stethoscope and blood pressure cuffs from his bag.

Dr. Henderson, checking Maggie’s pulse and blood pressure, said, “Mama, how’s it looking to you?”

Mama said, “She and the baby are looking strong. She’s already starting to crown.”

Listening and concentrating intently, Dr. Henderson was manually massaging Maggie’s belly, and after a few minutes he said, “Well, Mama, I don’t know how you do this, but the baby has turned and everyone’s vitals are perfect.”

Mama laughed and said, “It ain’t me doin’ nothin’, Dr. Henderson. This is God’s work, not mine.”

With that, Myra chimed in. “Amen to that, sister, amen!”
