Maggie said, “And I’m sure Mama will have lots of toys and games there for you, Layla. She has lots of grandbabies and nieces who have grown up now and they have children. I’m sure there will be lots of toys.”

Layla giggled and said, “What’s a nieces?”

We all laughed and I said, “That’s a fancy word for a big family that has lots of little girls like you!”

Layla looked at me again and said, “What’s fancy?”

Maggie laughed and said, “That’s you, Miss Fancy Pants!”

We all laughed again and just as we were about to get up from the table the phone rang. Maggie was close to the phone and answered. “Oh, hi Mama!” She then went on to say, “Oh, how nice! Of course!” And then, “She’ll love that! Okay, we’ll see you at the shop in thirty minutes.”

Hanging up the phone, Maggie smiled and said to Layla, “Mama has a surprise for you, Layla!”

“What, Mommy? What is the surprise?” Layla pleaded.

“No, I’m not going to tell you. Mama made me promise!” Maggie said. “Now hurry up and let’s get ready so you can find out what your surprise is!”
