“No, honey, I’m just very impressed with those guys. They run such a great bakery!”

“Impressed with those guys!” I said laughing.

Maggie laughed and said, “Oh, you have nothing to worry about, silly. Pierre and Daniel are gay!”

“What?” I said. “How do you know?”

“Oh, Jim, you poor thing!” Maggie said with a giggle.

Realizing that I was never going to be able to keep up with this girl, I just let it go and happily blurted out, “Hey, I found the perfect music!”

Maggie, looking a little astonished, took my hand as I led her into the bedroom. Pushing the CD into the player, I held my breath, hoping my choice was going to please her.

As the beautiful first track titled “Karen’s Theme” began to play, I felt Maggie squeeze my hand and, turning to her as we made eye contact, I saw that tears were filling her eyes. Then she said, “Oh, baby, it’s perfect. Our first date!”

Wrapping her arms around my neck, she gave me a long, deep kiss, tears running down her cheeks, and as I thought “mission accomplished” Maggie pulled me onto the bed.
