I glanced over at Maggie as she said, “Listen to those two. I’ve never heard such a commotion! I’m going to have to call all the neighbors tomorrow and apologize!”
“Hon, Bob and Janet are our nearest neighbors and they don’t mind. They love Buster and Jake. Besides their house is half mile down the road.”

Out here at night on the Delta, the slightest sound could carry for miles.

I reached over Maggie to help her with the door. The handle stuck sometimes and it wouldn’t open from the inside. After a few stiff yanks I said, “Looks like I’m going to have to open the door from the outside.”
Maggie wryly replied, “You know, Jim, you should have thought of this trick door thing when we first started dating. It might have done you some good back then.”
I chuckled and said, “Now, Maggie, if I recall, wasn’t it you who made the first move on like our third date?”

“No,” she said, “It was our second date.”

I glanced over at her and she winked and gave me that same beautiful smile that always just made time stand still.
