During all this I left my body and was up on the ceiling looking down at me and Mama, and Mama was singing to my body and then she looked up at me up there on the ceiling and she said, ‘You are so beautiful, child. You didn’t know you could fly, now did you?’ And she laughed and then she left the room. I saw the whole thing happening below me and then I drifted down into my body and, feeling totally at peace, I fell asleep. What do you think it means?” I said.
Maggie looked at me for a long time and then said,
“I’m not sure, but when I had my journey I went to Mama for some help to understand it.”
“Did it help you?” I asked.
“Yes, baby, it did,” Maggie said. “It did, it really did.”
Feeling a little less self-conscious and wondering what happened on Maggie’s journey, I asked, “So what happened with you? Was it like my experience?”
Maggie sat there and smiled that crooked little smile that says she’s amused but not telling why, and she said, “No, baby, it wasn’t anything like yours.”
