After making a few more turns I realized I was standing in front of Maggie’s favorite church, the one she took me to, the Church of Saint Francis. So, thinking this might be more than a coincidence, I decided to go in. I could see people going in and out of the front door to the sanctuary, so I let myself in. Surprisingly, there were many people there. I realized there was a morning mass underway, so I sat down quietly in the back pew of the church. I wasn’t a church-goer but to my surprise I felt a peace that I hadn’t felt in a while and, half-listening to the priest’s mass, I began to look around the cathedral.

There were maybe forty people there. Suddenly I heard a child’s laugh and, glancing over at the center isle, I saw a little girl. She couldn’t have been over five or six and as I looked in her direction she handed me something and then giggled and scurried off, presumably to return to her mother or father. Looking at what she had given me, I realized it was some kind of a votive card with the front of it being Mary holding the baby Jesus in her arms.
