It’s funny, though, that neither one of us saw this coming.

We’ve both been each other’s family, and when Layla came I guess we didn’t realize how much work it is, how hard it is and how we’re not supposed to do it alone. I guess this was our blind side, because we never really thought this through.

I reached over and held Maggie’s hand and said, “Thank you, Mama, and you too, Myra. We really could use some help right now.”

Maggie’s face was streaming tears, as Mama said, “Don’t you two worry now, ‘cause me and Myra we got lots of family to share with you and Maggie and little Layla. We got lots of family to share, don’t we, Myra?”

Myra chuckled and said, “Yes, we do, we sure do!”

“And besides,” Mama said, “We all just been so excited waitin’ for Layla to come. We all just so excited.”
