Marie and Betty had known the Grants for years, as they shared the same country road that ran between their farms, and after Marie’s husband Tom passed away, Marie sold most of her farm to the Grants, just keeping the old farmhouse and 20 acres for her own.
It seemed like a perfect match for Betty and Gary. There was some talk about Gary’s dark moods now and then, but that was pretty common for the boys who had returned from the war.
It wasn’t long before the baby was due and everyone was so excited, especially Marie, as Betty was her only child and it had been such a lonely and hard time since Tom had passed away. But finally a new grandbaby was soon to arrive and Marie was just beside herself with the idea of being a grandma.
It was a beautiful spring Sunday morning when Maggie Grant was born. It couldn’t have been a more perfect morning or a more perfect birth.
Gary and all the Grant clan were gathered in the waiting room at the parish hospital, and along with Marie they couldn’t wait to see the new baby. It wasn’t until Gary motioned them all into Betty’s room that Marie fully experienced her love for Maggie, but there she was, a perfect and beautiful baby girl.
