They are both a piece of work but I love these guys.

With Jake and Buster attended to—as they are now rolling around on the grass in the back yard, something they liked to do after dinner, who knows why—I turned my attention to Maggie.

Under the closed door, I saw the light was still on in the master bedroom. So after a slight hesitant knock, I let myself in to find Maggie, with her clothes on, asleep on top of the bed. I knew she was exhausted but she had insisted on us driving and returning on the same day. I’ve learned over the years when to say no, and this was not one of those times.

Since the night of the accident with Layla, Maggie will not drive, and she does not like being away from home.

As I quietly and slowly tried to remove her shoes and sweater, she opened her eyes and sleepily said, “Excuse me, sir, but do I know you?”
I smiled and said, “Funny, but you do look kind of familiar.”
Always keeping me on my toes, that Maggie.

I got her under the covers and before I could turn off the light she was already deeply back asleep.
