I didn’t know what to say. My head and heart were not in the same place. My mind instantly said yes to Maggie’s suggestion, but my heart said no.
After a few minutes, I said, “What if Mama is right about Layla? What if she really is an angel? I’m not sure what to believe at this point, but my heart tells me it’s too late to turn back now. I guess time will tell and all we can really do is trust this. Otherwise we’re just reacting from fear. All this is just so hard to take in, but maybe Mama is seeing the truth, I really don’t know.”
Maggie sighed and said, “I know this is really hard to believe, baby, but I agree, time will tell. I don’t feel like Layla is being harmed by this, but I’m a little concerned about you. There’s so much happening with you around all this. Are you okay? Because if you’re not, we need to pull the plug on this whole thing.”
