We were all at peace, and somehow we knew now that without a doubt our Layla was more than just our little angel. She was more than that, much more.

“Sweetheart, before we head out let’s go grab a piece of pie at Alma’s, want to?”
I asked as Maggie was putting Layla in the car seat.

“Sure, baby, that sounds wonderful!” Maggie said.

Houma, Louisiana is a very small town, so it was no time at all before we pulled up in front of the diner. As we parked, we noticed Alma himself coming out of the restaurant to greet us.

“Lordy, look who’s here! Y’all come in, there’s a bunch of folks sittin’ inside just talkin’ all ‘bout y’all.”

I looked at Maggie as she looked at me, then we both looked at Alma. I could tell Maggie was as puzzled and surprised as I was.

I was holding Layla as Alma held the door to the diner open, and as we walked in I noticed there were about fifteen people all standing up by their tables. The men were taking off their caps and hats as we were escorted inside.
