Lisa’s dad was a vintage car collector and as I approached the car I had to admit this was the finest Ford Galaxie convertible I’d ever seen. It was turquoise blue with cream-colored trim and cream leather interior. It was in perfect condition.

Lisa showed us how to operate the convertible top and a few other tricks about the car, and as I loaded the trunk with our luggage I heard Maggie ask Lisa, “Is this odometer right? It says 44,000 miles!”

Lisa answered, “Yep, that’s right. My dad kept this car under a tarp in the garage for five years, and he bought it from a schoolteacher who was the original owner. She only drove it back and forth to work and to church on Sundays.”

Maggie said, “Lisa, are you sure it’s okay for us to borrow this?”

Lisa replied, “Oh, hell yes! I tried to get my dad to at least drive the car every now and then but he wouldn’t. It’s about time someone enjoyed it!” Lisa added, “After dad passed last year, we had the car completely serviced and as far as I know it’s in tip-top shape mechanically, so y’all have fun and don’t worry about it!”
